Top Tanning Tips

Have a look at these top tanning tips to see how you can improve your fake tan routine!
- Exfoliate 24 hours before tanning - this will remove all dead skin cells and give the skin a smooth and even tanning base. It will also bring out any ingrown hairs ready for removal before you tan. This also applies when using sunbeds.
- Remove hair 24 hours before tanning - this is especially essential if you wax or epilate as it will give the pores chance to close so that fake tan does not clog them. Wax strips can also pull away dead skin so waxing beforehand is crucial as to not strip the tan.
- Leave it overnight - if using a developing form of fake tan leave it on overnight as you won't be tempted to mess with it by scratching and rubbing and you tan will be fresh and ready for you to go in the morning.
-
Build yourself up - If using sunbeds, start off by going on for a shorter period of time and build yourself up as burnt skin will fade faster, even when it turns to a tan. - Drink plenty of water after tanning - hydrated skin is happy skin.
- Moisturise regularly - a mild moisturiser will benefit self tan whereas an after sun lotion will benefit your skin after using sunbeds.
- Add shimmer powder to accentuate your tan - putting a little shimmer powder on your decollatage and above the knees will show off your tan and make you look slimmer.
- Change your make-up to suit your tan - if your pre-tan skin was lighter you need to ensure that you apply a darker foundation or mix a little instant tan in with your original colour. Be sure to bronze your cheek bones and experiment with darker eyeshadows.
-
Make sure your skin is dry before applying clothing - ensure that fake tan is dry before you put on your clothes to avoid staining them. Similarly when using tan accelerators on sunbeds, make sure you don't have any wet patches that could seep through on to your outfit. - Wear a tanning glove or mitt - using a tanning glove or mitt will enable you to put on your tan easily and mess-free. You will avoid getting self tanner on the palms of your hands and they can easily be tanned afterwards using a cotton wool pad. If you are unfortunate and get fake tan on your palms and inbetween your fingers it can easily be moved with a mixture of sugar and lemon juice.
